"The modern executive is symbolic, and the media has — due to the large amount of Business Idiots running these outlets and middle managers stuffed into the editorial class — been trained to never ask difficult questions, such as 'what the fuck are you talking about, Bill?' or even the humble 'what does that mean?' or 'how would you do that?' or saying 'I'm not sure I understand, would you mind explaining?'"

@edzitron What you're observing there may also be related to the revolving door between journalism and reputation laundering ("corporate communications"). Journalists who aren't confident that will continue to be a secure, fulltime job for them, have a strong career incentive *not* to ask awkward questions of Business Idiots. Who they might one day depend on for a reputation laundering job.
This is a shit situation, and causes *many* problems.

Another killing by ICE, this time in Maine. That’s twice in one week. How can America keep asking immigrant workers to work as usual if they are being shot dead on their way to work?
Stop killing us.

@shauna A close-up photo of a grey and brown tabby cat with its eyes closed. The cat has long, white whiskers and textured fur. It is resting on blue fabric that features a pattern of small white flowers. Only the upper part of the cat's body and head are visible in the frame.

I want to add that as a creator who relies on sales, I have never turned down a request by someone who doesn't have $2.99 to spare for my eBook to write a review or something in exchange for it and I know many indie creators who would do the same. That is sharing too. 💝
i've been doing some really good lineart lately, but have been having trouble shading and finishing it
@xvln "Why finish an idea when I could start a new and shiny one?!" a memoir 😭
Actually understanding something about the structure and logistics of US elections is arguably cheating here.
@mattblaze Actually understanding something … always seems like cheating these days though.
S&P downgrades Oracle to BBB- – only one notch above junk level
S&P Global has downgraded Oracle's rating due to massive AI investments. The company is now only one notch away from the speculative territory.

Pretty wild to see hacking content creators I once admired get completely AI-brained. For years you've made a name for yourself telling people the path to success was learning certain skills. And now, suddenly, the message is just "let the models do it?"
I know what the models can and can't do. But I also know that they require domain expertise to keep them on track, and there's only one way to develop it. Hint: it isn't writing prompts.
@mttaggart The way that AI fanaticism hit every community at so many levels reminds my WAY to much about the statistics on how gambling addition hits all demographics

Pub quizzes.
@quixoticgeek big pub controlling the education system to keep the quiz industry turning over
I received another email this morning.
One of the good ones. The kind we like: 'we've decided to decouple from $BIGPROVIDER and choose open-source solutions to manage our workflow. Can you give us a hand?'
@stefano Nice!
What happens if Crew Dragon stops flying in the 2030s?
"It's very clear that in the United States there is a big need for an additional crew vehicle."

@arstechnica SpaceX of course is hoping to have a crewed version of Starship by then.
This article by @edzitron isn't telling me much I didn't know on a theoretical level. But it is making sense of so many otherwise bamboozling experiences I've had, and reminding me of J. Krishnamurti's famous maxim, that it's no sign of good health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly insane society.
Thanks so much for writing this Ed.
