Hauppauge USB-Live2 video digitizer - has S-Video input. I actually had two of these (so I could digitise two tapes at once), left one at my parent's place. This one has never been used. $50 posted.

@iamkonstantin my heart is in California and my dream is working for Apple. That’s best case scenario. I’m also very much a Tokyo girl. Melbourne is safe, but I keep wanting to escape and it’s just not me.

@MiaMarkTwo @moof @darkphoenix @wendy well the hiding zone can contain all sorts. This is our fourth big game, 2 in .nl, and this is the 2nd in Germany. The hider has to hide somewhere clearly visible from a path.

We've been with the absolutely fantastic Masto.host since starting Writing.Exchange in 2017, but it's become prohibitively expensive -- especially for a community of only ~250 active users, as our hosting costs are about to increase another $50 to $589/month this month.

JVC HR-S7950 VCR - got this to digitise a few tapes for my parents. It did the job very well. S-Video output and built-in time base correction, about as good as you'll get without going sicko mode with RF capture. Imported from Europe, has a 2-pin power cable. Power supply is multi-voltage, just need a cheap travel adapter.
$700, no postage for now. I don't trust Aus Post not to play footy with it. Happy to drop it off to you anywhere in VIC.

Hi @w3c, did you know that WordPress is now supporting W3C standard ActivityPub pretty well? Which means that people here in the Fediverse could follow WordPress posts on https://www.w3.org/community/ and know what's happening at the various W3C community groups right from Mastodon etc?
All you'd need to do is enable the ActivityPub plugin. How can we make this happen?

We call this "raising the floor" -- we're not trying to make the *best* version of a thing, we're trying to make the *free, public version* of a thing better. Which has distributional effects.
In our case the thing is energy data and we're motivated by the belief that this data should be a public good. But ya know, there's other impacts too.

We had this with Bram. We had 500 flyers printed, then put just over 200 in every mailbox in the neighbourhood.
After a few false positives, someone about 50 meters from here called to say he was hiding in their attic.
We went there. He was so frightened he did not recognise us. He slipped through a hole in the floor and stayed there.
Catching him took 2 more days, but he's back.
