We might be on to something here~

🏮 Tonight we hosted the Demo Night Market! 🏮
Many makers demoed their decentralised tech stack tools.
Participants needed no code skills, just ready-to-test tech and real conversations with those who conceived it.
Every project was not about potential, remote, and abstract futures, but rather about the distributed tech we need HERE and NOW.

@mastodonmigration - Yes, but that rhetoric (dems trying to disenfranchise progressive voters) is *exactly* what GOP strategists would say. Unhelpful. The idea that Democratic party is bitterly divided and *that's* the problem is also exactly what extremists say and it makes everyone feel sh*tty about voting. I don't think most voters care about the intensity of a candidate's ideology. I *really* don't.
Fair enough. The primary process is how we determine the future of the Democratic Party. At present there is a battle royale between progressives who want things like universal health care, workers rights and standing up to fascism and corporate centrists who are in the clutches of AI and crypto industries. The people are overwhelmingly behind the progressives, so efforts to disenfranchise the voters matter both in the primaries and tge future general election.
The open web is one of humanity's best ideas. Keeping it open is up to all of us.
Code for the People, a new documentary short from director Bao Nguyen, tells the human story of open source: the people who built the web, the walled gardens closing in on it, and what it takes to keep it free.

RANT AHEAD
I am miffed. We had a submission at Orbit that we went to great pains to review. It was extremely challenging to find readers. Our internal team read it, too.
It was through to acceptance. And then the author pulled out because their university demanded a Q1 or Q2 ranked journal.
I do not blame the author, here (although they could have checked this before submitting). I understand the pressure they are under (it was part of a portfolio for a doctorate by publication).
But WTF with this journal ranking nonsense? Appalling. It clearly induces a Matthew Effect because if institutions demand publication in Q1 and Q2 journals, and that is where all the quality material goes, then newer and outsider publications can never break into those quartiles.
Also, I believe this Q1/Q2 stuff is a SCOPUS fabrication. So if you use this, you're in bed with Elsevier.
@Nonilex Those of us who are older now so can remember pretty clearly that, since the end of WWII, being "anti-fascist" was something you didn't even think twice about and could take for granted that almost everyone was. If the 47 regime is so set on labeling anyone who challenges their criminal activities as "anti-fascist," it seems very clear that the regime is thereby declaring itself, quite openly, to be a fascist regime. One can hope, though likely in vain, that "reporters" will bring this up with the criminals in this regime and push them to answer this.

@dan I hardly use any mobile apps at all. In fact, the number of non-web apps I use on my phone in any given week I could probably count on one hand, two at the very most.
As far I'm concerned, “there's an app for that” is a dead end…at least on mobile. Still plenty of room for pro-quality native apps on tablets/laptops/desktops.
@jaredwhite @dan ur a badass

Polls can now be created in individual chats too. Show a curated list of choices to your indecisive friend or recapture the magic of passing a note to your crush by sending a “Do you like me? Y/N/Maybe” poll.

Hey so I nearly flunked bio-stats and epidemiology in college and I don't have the programs necessary to open these files. Would anyone be able to take the data on this on this page, run it, and see if there's actual statistical significance in the data that would back up the claims in this guy's substack article? Can't find anything in the visualized data either.

Yes, the #ChatControl vote today was a farce. BUT. End to end encrypted messages are excluded from scanning through an amendment. So #UseSignal or other secure E2E solutions, as you should anyway.
