I take your point, but in this case (and many others) the one is clearly driven by the other. It's technocracy on generative steroids. Exactly the kind of thing Adam Curtis focused on in one of his best TV series; The Trap: What Happened to Our Dreams of Freedom (2007).

Do you like documentaries? I just watched "The Cost of Convenience" and was reminded I need to try breaking away from proprietary tech ecosystems again. I have already deleted all social media except for Fedi. But I need to minimize my smartphone use and give Linux yet another try on my PCs.

Watched the 'Prime Minister' documentary film about Jacinda Ardern last night. 🎥
It is excellent.
I have lots of criticism towards the labour party in general and Ardern's government in particular, but she is a decent, genuine human being and an excellent leader that brought the best out of people in hard times, of which she faced a real handful.
The film feels authentic and intimate, with it being partly shot by her partner and giving us a glimpse into her perspective of pivotal moments of Aotearoa's recent history.
It also makes it really evident how much of a downgrade the current CoC government is, and how much of her work has already been eroded by these greedy profiteers. And just how poisoned the discourse against her became and how manipulated the cookers still are.
I hope one day soon the pendulum swings back out of the rabbit hole and kindness and integrity come back into fashion for politicians.

Democracy Now! speaks with the renowned Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi, the director of the new #documentary “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk.” The #film is based on regular video calls Farsi made with the #Palestinian photojournalist Fatma Hassona in #Gaza over the course of a year from April 2024 to April 2025.
Hassona was killed with her family by an Israeli missile that targeted her apartment building in northern Gaza. The strike occurred just one day after she learned that the film centered around her life and work had been selected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. “It’s something that I will never get over,” says Farsi.
