When people get a flu, we seldom worry that the state of discomfort and enforced rest that results will last forever. But for some reason, when I get the cognitive health equivalent of a bad viral infection, I tend to struggle with exactly that fear; that the loss of capacity is permanent.

I don't know if that's a symptom of these illnesses, or of an accompanying depression. Or maybe it's a result of the well-intentioned gaslighting from people and especially institutions determined to fake it until I make it. With the same effect as refusing to believe the cognitive exhaustion I'm experiencing is real.
