I wonder how annoyed the other Gulf states are with Iran for accelerating the transition away from oil.
@david_chisnall I can imagine UAE going "we shifted to a service economy for this?"

hey so. looking for a job (NZ or fully remote willing to hire a kiwi) in SRE, security, or linux/Unix system administration. 15 years experience administering Linux and Unix boxes, intermediate level of experience working with docker compose and containerisation and container security. No prior job experience unfortunately, all those 15 years were mostly personal projects and small-scale stuff for friends. I'm also 26, so I started when I was 11, explaining the no jobs so far. Currently running an entire multi-machine personal cloud infrastructure with a demonstration of all the services I have running at https://status.highenergymagic.net. Three machines, 72 docker containers. One running most of them, one running Mastodon+glitchsocial, one running the uptime monitor. encrypted root on ZFS, alpine linux, gVisor on supported containers, plan to move to Kata. Entirely willing to accept entry-level job placements, no expectation of being paid a lot or anything, just want to be doing something and move the needle a little on my current "being broke" status. Currently using gVisor, docker compose, and kata containers in production, experience with Linux, docker, Net/Open/FreeBSD, Cisco IOS, Juniper Junos, Mikrotik and UniFi, configuring and administering Asterisk, plus extensive experience with IBM AIX and Sun Solaris. #fedihired #infosec #cybersecurity #linux #unix #docker #sre #DevOps #GetFediHired
Please boost for reach, any job offers please DM me.
Crazy thought: have you tried reading the error message?
@elenatanasoiu why would I do that?
Surely you also want to read the fine manual too?
Idea: a "nice messages" bot.
You can write to it, and it replies with an anonymous nice message. The idea is that you're writing a nice message to someone in the future, and you get something nice from someone who was here before.
I'd have to manually moderate the incoming messages before they get propagated, but I could make a simple enough web ui for that.
I'd also have to run it a bit with no replies (or manual replies?), just to gather an initial pool.of nice messages to send back.
As U.S. gas prices climb, politicians are looking at ways to lower them.
An economist breaks down what does and doesn’t move the number on the sign at the gas station.

Super busy day here at #RC2014 Towers. Mostly playing Grid Trap (https://loudscotsbloke.itch.io/grid-trap-altair-680-8800) and Altairis (https://loudscotsbloke.itch.io/altairis-for-the-altair-680) by @loudscotsbloke

I strongly recommend that you read all of the way to the end of the post before replying.
You're also describing some fairly complex game theory as 'straightforward math', without actually doing any of it.
@david_chisnall @numodular @georgetakei
but it is straightforward
you're describing a system where a 3rd party can exist in harmony with the two dominant parties
what happens instead is the right leaning 3rd party rewards the democrats, such as perot in 1992, or the left leaning 3rd party rewards the republicans, such as nader in 2000
that is, indeed, straightforward math
so every argument is sound
but in democracies where 3rd parties can coexist. they can't in FPTP

When the #GlobalSumudFlotilla was intercepted in international waters, leaving ships disabled, people left adrift and hundreds detained, our crew stepped up.
While our friends at Open Arms returned to open sea to rescue those left adrift, the Greenpeace Ships crew supporting the remaining ships, repairing engines and solar panels, restoring communication lines, and ensuring medics have what they need to keep going.
This is what movement solidarity looks like: taking care of each other.
Together we demand:
🔴 The immediate and safe return of Saif and Thiago.
🔴 Safe passage for the Global Sumud Flotilla.
🔴 An end to the illegal siege of Gaza.
Stand with us. Demand diplomatic pressure on Israel from your government today.

"Two freight trains derailments disrupt Lithuanian main lines and Rail Baltica corridor" — https://railmarket.com/news/infrastructure/56159-two-freight-trains-derailments-disrupt-lithuanian-main-lines-and-rail-baltica-corridor
Two freight derailments in 3 days sounds like sabotage is a strong possibility, especially as it'd block munitions logistics between Germany and the Baltic Repubics (a likely next target for Russian aggression). Possibly a Russian dry run in advance of their next war, or aimed at blocking German resupply of Ukraine in the current one.
@cstross "sabotage" is a very apt word. "Sabots" were a French (Belgian? Interesting, almost.) type of clog, which would "accidentally" fall into machinery and keep on doing so until the pay improved morale. Late 1700s, IIRC.
Wouldst though? Verily?
