I always love a band that does a song called "chicken leg" or "chicken dance" or really anything with chickens
@annaleen What if the band has "Chicken" in their name? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOlSF8MThr4&list=RDTOlSF8MThr4&start_radio=1

@tinker I'm conflicted about your description there. As an #actuallyautistic person, I totally agree with you and I have the very same feelings about AI and "natural language" models.
However, with lots of #actuallyautistic social contacts and also having been in various self-help groups, I have met a number of violently pro-AI folks who are on the spectrum and don't share my (or your) disagreement about the use of AI as a replacement for actual precise communication with the machine.
So it doesn't seem that being autistic is a key factor in how much you like or dislike the "natural" language that LLMs force on us.
Tried to put a feeling into a graph today:

@Migueldeicaza I miss when the internet was more like this. Thank you
@egonw 2/2 A crucial question is which, if any, of the evaluation criteria need satisfying scores for all individual journals for the deal to be able to go ahead. That will likely be limited to formal and often binary criteria (OA, license, peer review) but not for criteria at ordinal/ratio level (diversity of editorial board, rejections, retractions, visibility and citedness, review duration etc.) or qualitative ones (constructiveness of reviews etc.).
@jeroenbosman I wonder if the social sciences have ever studied how Dutch researchers rank journals in their own field, with a main goal to develop a quality-based ranking. But I can also imagine the closely related research what Dutch scientists actually say defines the quality for them. Plenty of anecdotes a few years ago, but a systematic study would inform the UKB in their negotiations with the expensive publishers
This was not on my Mars Bingo Card.
Curiosity rover lifts the rock that is stuck to its drill, gives it a shake which liberated some loose material, but fails to dislodge the errant rock on Sol 4881 (April 30, 2026). The team has an option to eject the drill bit assembly and use one of its spare drill bits, but I assume that will be the last resort. Animated HazCam GIF with timestamps.

@randahl In this case, I do think this is simply because Merz dissed Trump in an interview, you don't need Putin for Trump to throw random tantrums...
Self-inflicted humiliation, mind you....
U.S. is 'being humiliated by Iran,' says Germany's Merz https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/28/us-humiliated-germany-merz-europe-iran-war-energy-prices-fuel.html?__source=iosappshare%7Ccom.thomasricouard.IceCubesApp.IceCubesShareExtension
Putin has requested a ceasefire on May 9, where he will be celebrating Russia’s WWII related Victory Day.
Putin is relentlessly bombing civilians in Ukraine 7 days a week, but on the day where he plans to have a large, concentrated troop presence in Moscow, he thinks it is only fair, if Ukraine agreed not to attack his soldiers.
I hope Ukraine answers: “Thank you for your request but unfortunately we have already planned a number of military operations on May 9, making a ceasefire impossible.”
@randahl Maybe Ukraine should say, 'No, sorry, too short notice. How about the following week?', because it'll show Putin's plan up, whilst looking reasonable.
because I'm musically uneducated and the only gamelan music I ever heard before was the Akira OST, which I adore, finding out about gamelan music was like finding out there's been 1800 years of Akira soundtracks and there's thousands of new Akira soundtracks albums to try
@elilla this happened to me as well lol, listened to a lot of gamelan music for a while. it's great!

++14:05++ Die Stadt ist voll mit Antifaschist*Innen, die gegen die Nazis demonstrieren und ein Zeichen dafür setzen, dass in Essen und am ersten Mai kein Platz Faschismus ist.
On Morning Joe, Steve Rattner did an excellent job of explaining Trump's unprecedented crypto grift.
Is there a video of this anywhere?
