back in elementary school you HAD TO know both the German and the English names for 700+ pokemons in order to be one of the cool kids
@hipsterelectron i think the "schi" part is from "schildkröte" (turtle). not sure about the "iggy"
localized names are a bit of a pain but it is kinda cute to see all the word games re-worked in a different language

@hipsterelectron now i'm thinking about how you'd adapt it into polish... "żółw" (turtle) is really hard to work into something
you could do sth like "skoruprysk" (skorupa + prysk = shell + ~squirt) but that doesn't sound cute and i don't like it v much
if ur willing to stray further from the source, maybe "skorupianek" could work (skorupa + piana = shell + foam). it's cuter although i'm still not quite happy w/ it

@owoce squirtle using bubblebeam very frequently in the anime makes me like the "foam" construction a lot
@owoce blastoise also switches to tortoise which is of course very different than a turtle so you can get funky with it
@hipsterelectron could do "żółwir" for blastoise (żółw + wir = turtle + whirlpool). also sounds a bit like "zbir" (thug, ish) which gives them a menacing aura
