@BetaCuck4Lyfe The average person has been trained since childhood to accept all advice from doctors as gospel. Almost all the doctors I've interacted with are minimizers. How would the average person, who lacks scientific literacy, know their doctor is wrong? To the average person, we're just conspiracy theorists because doctors and other authority figures have convinced them of it. That, and they're scared.
This person was well aware of what they needed to do to stay safe before they were sick, but that's not typical. If you go to a cancer ward today, you won't see people wearing masks, even though they should.
Doctors have a moral responsibility to appropriately educate themselves and their patients. Failing to educate a patient about the risks and potential appropriate risk mitigations associated with their medication is a dereliction of duty.

@sebsauvage this. Raison pour laquelle j'ai arrêté d'utiliser ProtonMail. Je lui ai préféré Infomaniak, et pour le chiffrement de bout-en-bout, je passe par la fonction native de Thunderbird avec GPG.

@neobrain FYI I'd take @Natanox's anti-Matrix carping with a grain of salt. They seem to have had an almost uniquely bad personal experience with Matrix, and seem determined to treat that as *the* universal experience. In contrast, many of us who have used *many* Free Code chat systems have had good experiences with Matrix, and note distinct improvements in UX as the Matrix 2.0 features are gradually stabilised and rolled out across the network.

Jitsi widget has worked fine for me since Element was still Riot. But Element has used native Matrix signalling for 1:1 voice/ video for a few years now, based on the MatrixRTC spec;

@ChrisMayLA6 the UK exports 85% of the oil it produces because it doesn’t have the refinery capacity to meet its own demands, so it buys more than it exports at higher cost. Oil underpins everything we take for granted. And globally, oil EROI has slid from 1:100 to 1:15 in the past 80 years. It becomes loss making at about 1:10.
No amount of political wishful thinking or strategic shift in monetary policy is going to change material reality or magic up economic dynamism
@neil I am with this up to the point when advocates for these alternative services (as is depressingly common) start getting upset more people don't use them, or blaming users for not doing so.
It's one thing to not want to respond to random demands as a volunteer, it's another entirely to not listen to user feedback and then get upset that people prefer something that works better for their purposes. (See the frequent discussions on here about how people sacrifice privacy for "convenience" on here - yes, people don't want to be inconvenienced! That is not their problem, it's the software developers'!)

@developing_agent You'd just have to migrate the account to have non local scope (presumably set a scope/domain field). Whether this breaks past mentions depends on whether those are stored by name or by ID... (I hope id)
But the more interesting thing is designing a flow to "take over" a local account and migrate to remote identity without risk of ending up with two unmergeable accounts too easily...
As for multiple clients, an existing legacy client miiiight be able to keep its auth token and stay logged in but there are a lot of asterisks on that. And to log back in you'd need, at minimum, "app passwords" or something.
@lina You mean having two accounts that mutually point to each other as "I log in other there"?
I think it might be an unlikely race condition if it requires manual conversion as exists in mastodon. But I think two problems could be solved at once with a cool-down between pushing the button and actually becoming a non-local account. If servers refuse to become that external authenticator during the cooldown that might fix it, and it ads a guard against hostile takeover.
