The Université de Lorraine joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) at the end of 2022, after signing the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) in 2021, and participating in the organization of the first European Open Science Conference in early 2022, which launched the Paris Call for Research Assessment under the aegis of the French Presidency of the European Union. CoARA aims to move the evaluation of research and the assessment of research staff careers towards a more qualitative process, combined with a responsible use of quantitative indicators. Its implementation is fully in line with our five core values of universality, creativity, reflexivity, solidarity and responsibility. Therefore, this document proposes the organization of a collective reflection at Université de Lorraine level on how to evaluate individual and collective research activities, in line with CoARA commitments. This document does not propose any predefined actions, but essentially outlines methods and ideas for new developments. It builds on the progress already made following the signing in 2021 of DORA, the San Francisco Declaration on the Evaluation of Research. In fact, theestablishment has already significantly transformed its career evaluation tools for rapporteurs, by involving the communities.

Here's the thing about this, if MS can override or ignore Group Policy settings for Copilot, it can do so for anything else and that seems bad.

I want to highlight this response because I often feel this way. But, many of the people who have found their way to the fedi are already interested in software. It can be alien to your ‘average person’.
Just the other day my mother asked: “Why do I see posts from people I don’t know on Facebook?” I explained that was the algorithm. ”So, someone *else* just decides what I see?! that’s awful.”
She only just noticed! But, she seemed more open in that moment to learning about alternatives.

Signal was absolutely up to the task of journalism in danger, 100% would recommend to everybody ('cos the bigger the network the better) as just a daily messenger
This is really critical. The privacy of Signal users is significantly enhanced by the fact that tens of millions of people are sending mundane traffic via the same servers. Doing traffic analysis on this is hard.
It's also helped by the fact that this includes the people using it for sensitive things. If you use Signal for talking to journalists and WhatsApp for talking to everyone else, it's easy for a passive adversary to see that you're doing something unusual.

Just enrolled myself into an actual #Norwegian course. Starting at A1 because with Duolingo the amount of grammar I learned is very limited, and I’m not in a hurry anyway. The course will start at the end of January, 12 lessons until mid May, and then a test.
