Your cat printer is running low on black and orange ink. Please replace ink cartridges.
@sjvn i love cats
Super busy today, but just have to quickly share that this morning, I woke up at a friend's house, under a skylight, and was delighted to see stars above me for nearly the first time this whole BC trip (lots of clouds here)!
And literally 10 seconds later, I saw a fucking Starlink train! Through the skylight!!! AUGH.
@sundogplanets that sounds sick, those are pretty rare to see and they don’t ruin the sky like light pollution

Intruiging; by coincidence was reading about biochemical basis for humans' innate social and emotional characteristics. The blog post suggests a possible future scenario of severe frustration. People receive a relatively faster emotional satifasfaction from the efficiency of interaction with AGI/LLM services, yet the innate satisfaction of interaction with humans remains unfufilled. Such a hypothesis would concur already with classroom observations.

What really irritates me are the arguments against federated networks that boil down to "but you need to trust some rando and you don't know their intentions" and then go on to suggest as the alternative some tech company's centralized platform instead, even though that tech company is fundamentally also just "some rando" except now it's certain that their intentions are malicious

You are allowed to find moments of joy, even in all the horror. Joy is not a prize for getting through it all, it is an important tool to *enable* us to get through this. Joy itself is an act of resistance, so look for the joys. Small ones, big ones-doesn't matter. Find them, embrace them, let them comfort you, let them fuel you.
@glyph the story in four acts we are about to see (just one example, but could be Wikipedia, or anything else as well)
A reminder that if you are unable to be on the front lines at protests etc, that doesn't mean what you're doing isn't valid. Supporting friends, neighbours and loved ones and keeping spirits up. Being available to chat so people can debrief. Posting positive/uplifting things online so that people can take a break. Taking care of yourself and your own mental health. All of these things(and more)often get overlooked, but they are also important ways to support and resist.

Vor allem, wenn andere Leute mit den eigenen schlechten Angewohnheiten anfangen, kann man sich nicht mal beschweren!
@janbartosik Yeah. It's mostly about bringing my passwords/2FA codes into my own hands. (And 2FA in Bitwarden costs extra ;))
This photo is from camping a few years back—one of the major out-of-control fires in our area is burning there. 😢
We're into day 2 of >40 C (100 F), in catastrophic fire risk for another day at least.
Ready to evacuate if the wind turns in our direction. 😬
@hildabast hoping you won't need to evacuate your house. stay safe.
All I ever promised you is that I wouldn't lie to you.
I kept that promise and I knew I could. That's why it was the only one I made.
Wildlife managers spent weeks unsuccessfully searching for a grizzly bear in British Columbia that had injured 11 schoolchildren.
One solution to situations like this: using facial recognition techniques on bears. https://theconversation.com/how-facial-recognition-for-bears-can-help-ecologists-manage-wildlife-271371
