Not all oil fields are created equal. It’s my ‘layperson’ understanding that some are not even really oil in the beginning of the 20th century sense.

1. Some only produce ‘light’ products of the kind one gets from the top half of a conventional oil distillation column. Some produce gas and liquids that have to be ‘reformed’ into heavier products (expensive).

Early proponents of this stuff were warned *directly* by browser engineers (incl. yours truly) that this would scale horribly, and indeed the post doesn't even cover the worst performance aspects of this nonsense: by repeatedly perturbing the global style set, CSS-in-JS runtimes *destroy the browser's layout caches*. From an office support staff view, what makes something a Datum is that someone wants to Collect it as an Attribute of some Thing. And what makes some data Personal Data is that, as part of a large enough collection of discrete Data, that Datum can assist in pinpointing a specific Person out of the population of all Persons.

This is part of how website tracking works. It's also why it's a best practice to only collect data you need.

I used to work as office administrative support for a small, non-technical team at a large tech company, and part of my job was ensuring my team complied with organizational privacy and data retention policies.
