A couple of weeks ago, we lost a good person
Suzanne Evas, who you likely didn't know (but it's entirely possible as she did *a lot* of stuff), left the planet unexpectedly in mid-November and it was a hell of a shock.
Suzanne produced my shows at the comedy festival in 2023 and I really liked getting to know her, as much as anyone did. It was a recurring thing at her funeral for people to realise how great the scope of her life was.
Anyway, you may not have known her but if you've got access to it, please watch the episode of Hard Quiz she was on (season 7, episode 20), and you'll maybe get an idea.
"With each passing scene, the giant birds taunt me. As Steve Martin races Kevin Bacon to the cab, I wonder, 'Why not hail an eagle instead?' As Neal furiously rants to the car rental lady, I'm reminded: 'All those fucks could've been avoided with an eagle.'" https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/why-didnt-eagles-just-fly-del-and-neal-to-chicago
Randomly thinking of that glorious moment in time over four years ago when @jz made a poll with three options: R, G, B, and fedi collectively created a color: Fédi-vert.

My dog is sick. We're going to the vet now.
this is a very good read. https://certainsound.net/the-music-business-is-utterly-enshittified-whats-next/
@wxcafe their faq: "this is not an EU product"
can you tell us whose product it is? "...no"
@wxcafe oh its one guy. sounds fine.
On day 1 of the #HTMHellAdventCalendar @5t3ph describes an accessibility issue that can arise when you use popovers and dialogs together.
Pregunta.
@andypiper Aww, that sucks. Are there domestic alternatives?
@evan not so much! Car clubs are not very active here. Interesting stats in the Guardian article about lack of options and volume in the UK market.
It (largely) no longer affects me, as an EV owner; but, I went ~7 years living in London purely with public transport and Zipcar. I did still use the service when I needed a van for small errands; useful!
Definitely disappointing news.
@hikingdude I was involuntarily confronted with such a situation in my surroundings, so it came quite naturally to start thinking about it.
@bergmeister oh this sounds... Not so amusing 😕
@be yeah I posted a bunch about that when it happened. There are a bunch of red flags, but I feel like there has got to be a good resource that sums up all the shit somewhere I could forward to my friend
@liaizon @be for activists their conformance to anti-terrorism statutes seems to undermine every single claim they make around privacy https://circumstances.run/@hipsterelectron/112413632384643655
Today was the hardest day of my life. We fought for nearly a decade to bring secure bike parking to NYC and ultimately were completely excluded from the @nyc-dot.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy process for citywide system. To those who believed in us and our vision, I am so sorry.

We’re still an absolute skeleton crew of 14 people, competing with teams sometimes 100x as large as ours. To get to our humble team size was only possible through the less than 1% community members who donate to Mastodon, a handful larger donations, & EU grants, all of which we are forever grateful for. We still have a large funding need for 2026, so please consider making a donation before the year-end if you’d like us to continue building and improving Mastodon https://joinmastodon.org/sponsors#donate

@mellifluousbox IIRC instagram was 13 people when facebook bought it so 14 is not skeleton (and they had tens of millions of user)
Hey #fediverse people, I've an ask: If you appreciate all that I do for the fediverse and open social web, and you'd like to see me continue to do that work, please support my work financially.
Right now I'm having to look for work outside of the Fediverse because I simply cannot make ends meet.
I need €60-70k per year to support myself, with costs everywhere feeling increased (so that number may even be too low)
Right now, year to date, I've received a total of €20,170 in financial support from the community, and €22,450 from NLNet grants. I've also only had minimal freelance work this year, as I've been busy on grant work & try to focus on the fediverse & open social web.
So my total income isn't yet enough to be regularly sustainable. I've had problems being able to make rent payments this year because cashflow on grants comes in large chunks usually months after the work has been done.
So if you want to see me keep doing what I'm doing, please support my work!
