This captures a lot of my concerns about the rapidity of "AI" adoption.
> "No matter how well “AI” works, it has some deeply fundamental problems, that won’t go away with technical progress. I’d even go as far and say they are intentional."
> "When we let a model transform notes into a blog post, a lot of context and nuance is added. We read it and believe the output to be what we thought. It’s subtle."
I don't care how well your "AI" works by @fionafokus

Why Sprout’s Worth Paying Attention To :
- Config you can read - You can define entries, actions, and drivers in plain TOML.
- Linux and Windows boot support that doesn’t fight you - EFI stub, chainloading, and initrds are handled cleanly.
Autoconfiguration that actually helps - It can generate entries from your EFI environment or BLS-compatible filesystems.
Expensive Energy Bills : “It is the regularity that gas is setting the electricity price that is creating a problem.”
New research from the University of Aberdeen warns that electricity bills are unlikely to fall under current arrangements and urges policymakers to consider structural reforms to protect consumers while delivering the energy transition. The independent study undertaken in the Centre for Energy Transition, part of the University’s Interdisciplinary…
IA et emploi : de quoi l’IA est-elle responsable ? https://danslesalgorithmes.net/stream/ia-et-emploi-de-quoi-lia-est-elle-responsable/
@lanodan I don't, I usually go by gut feeling. Anything "controversial" is, I believe, will work. Controversial as in any LMBTQ+ themes, anything sexual, or anti-fascist. Anything you hear in the news fascist governments and far-right groups get worked up over.
Trump regime, including DoJ on its own behalf, has identified to Judge Boasberg the individuals who together disobeyed his orders to return Venezualans in mid-flight to U.S. when the regime first acted to remove them pursuant to the Alien Enemies Act. 1/ #LawFedi https://assets.bwbx.io/documents/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/rF.CJry9fVkI/v0
@heidilifeldman Hello Heidi
Managed PieFed hosting with fedihost.co
If you’d like a PieFed instance of your own but don’t want to deal with setting up a server, installing PieFed, and maintaining it yourself, get in touch with the team at fedihost.co! They’re currently offering reduced-price PieFed hosting to a limited number of instances as part of a beta program.
They’re looking for a mix of new and established PieFed instances so they can better understand real-world resource usage and what people need.
hate it when my friends do this
After Robert Redford passed away, started reserving some of his movies from the library for the family to watch. We did Sneakers a few weeks ago. Tonight we watched The Sting. Some of it is a bit dated, but mostly holds up as a movie.
Evolution doesn’t look how it’s depicted in pop culture. We often picture the famous “March of Progress” illustration where a series of apes stand in line leading to a modern human.
But evolution is not linear. It branches and branches. Divides in some places and recombines in others. #science

(it "only" took a few billion years🌎 for "it"🧠 to begin to understand "itself)
at least parts of (eukaryotic) yeast and human genes are "homologous" and functionally similar enough to function in either "host "

I'm re-reading The Big Con, by David Maurer, because I love the argot of early 20th century confidence men, but also because a book about how grifting works holds great explanatory power generations after it was written.
@evacide As a fan of The Sting, and having an interest in con games and other grifts, I can't believe I'd never heard of this book.
Thanks! Perfect timing for the long holiday weekend.
@decryption @jpm @shlee What's that run after construction costs (eg the monthly charge)?
