“Do you have Apple TV?”
"Yes."
This is going to be super clear for everyone, I'm sure.
@marcoarment do you think they're about to abandon the hardware?

Evan Prodromou is talking about long-form text in the social web in Ottawa on Friday. The very important role WordPress is playing to pull the twitter-like world into the actual web instead of their limited idea of the web. Sounds like harmony to me. 😉 https://canada.wordcamp.org/2025/session/beyond-microblogging-wordpress-leads-the-way-in-long-form-text-on-the-social-web/
Imagine if the hardware was called iPhone
and it contained an app called iPhone, which was also available on Android, full of lots but not all of your content
and you could buy an optional subscription with extra content
…called iPhone
@marcoarment “We’re now going to rebrand the product line to ‘TV’! …oh wait, sorry. Wait, we have a “TV” app? Shit.”

@ScruffyJunco @cwebber Frankly, I am terrified that our right has been taking notes from your right and are making too many inroads. It seems too may, particularly those lacking education, like being given permission to be their worst selves. It's a fight we are all in, like it or not. Human rights are human rights or they're not. :(
1. As some Democrats have run from transgender rights, Zohran Mamdani is showing what so many others have lacked: courage to lead with his values over pandering to focus groups.
The ad is one of the best things I've seen from a politician on transgender people.

@jaffathecake I've been exposed to quite a few questions/opinions about JPEG-XL over the last couple of years. From what I've seen and heard mentioned by others, its lossless compression is best-in-class for both file size and encode/decode times. Its lossy encoding speed is also brilliant compared with the CPU-intensive AVIF/AV1 but I realise that's less of a concern to web browsers. There's some discussion at https://github.com/lovell/sharp/issues/2731 if you haven't already seen it.
@lovell fwiw, I just did some testing, and JPEG XL takes 2.5x to decode compared to an equivalent AVIF.
ActivityPub doesn't represent state; it represents changes in state.
Git does the same thing (for the most part; there are exceptions). It represents a repository as a series of deltas from state to state.
@evan can AP handle empty directories?
Writing sentences as sequences of words, rather than trees of words, was a mistake. We could have conquered the Milky Way by now if we realised this early enough!

How people survive in #Kostiantynivka amid constant #Russian air attacks.
The #Russian army strikes the city with drones, artillery, and air bombs. The people who still remain there cook food over open fires, no longer react to drones, and hide from shelling in the basements of shattered buildings.
🆕 blog! “Every Theatre Show is "Immersive"”
I go to see a lot of theatrical productions. While most shows are good, the audience experience is usually dreadful. I'm not just talking about cramped seats and disgusting toilets (although they play a part) but that theatres haven't cottoned on to the idea that theatre is an immersive experience which can't be replicated by watching…
