I think Mastodon's proposal for starter packs is a significant positive evolution of the way Bluesky rolled them out. I wound up on a bunch of packs there and it was…not a great thing for my specific brain and purpose.
I do hope the people in Masto's comments saying they must allow opt-out and removal will read the actual post, which features both blanket opt-out and individual removal.

Why do I say #ActivityPub is overly complex and difficult to implement?
I'd need to get into some very geeky weeds to explain exactly why and I'm not going to do that on a thread. But, suffice to say, there's only a small number of full-featured Fedi implementations out there for a reason. And every single one of them is using a protocol implementation directly tied to their overall implementation.

In fact, the closest thing we have to an ActivityPub *Reference Implementation* is the Express ActivityPub Server, which hasn't been updated recently and is only a *partial implementation*:

I probably don't need to make the following point if you are a coder, but for the peanut gallery: Every substantial and mature protocol comes with a *Reference Implementation* as a testbed. And, by extension, this means ActivityPub is neither substantial nor mature.

@craiggrannell It’s good to pay for the development of a tool that feels like it’s coming from a good place, making progressive and creative choices. The CEO comes across well in interviews. Search results are generally useful. Integration with Kagi Assistant is a nice way to use AI models. There’s a lot of customisation available… but I don’t use it. No ads.
I’m also using Orion. Bit of a pain transferring logins over from Safari, but the Passwords app solves most of these.
