Listen, I just think it's weird that the same people who are saying they're worried that AI is going to wipe out humanity are also eager for military contracts that will give AI control of weapons.
@evacide They aren’t afraid of AI; they are afraid of the cheap and free models taking their market share. After all, they are still releasing NEWER and BETTER models despite their “misgivings”. The fearmongering is to get the government to regulate in order to raise the barrier to entry and lock out the competition. If the military isn’t allowed to use them, then their lower cost is no longer a threat.

@MichaelTBacon I have seen systems using containers to isolate untrusted code so this is interesting to learn about
@suddjian It does isolate it, and it requires exploits to break out, which then get patched.
But the structure of the way that they did it makes it much more vulnerable to that kind of attack than if they'd built the separation into the kernel the way other *nix OSes did.

Thinking about this a bit more, the reason that this confuses me so much is that it's not asking me for anything. It's not the spam I'm used to that's trying to scam money. It's like... it's trying to be helpful (in the most mansplainy way possible, but whatever). But it's a program, a racist pile of linear algebra (as "The AI Con" so beautifully puts it).
Is it trying to get me to reply and train on my email responses? This is so fucking weird.

Since I'm overseas, I had a rare chance to meet Carey in person at #DEFCON. Soon, it’s going to be @FirewallDragons's 500th episode! It's been quite a journey & absolutely an occasion to celebrate.
I come from a Layer 1-4 background, but he occasionally explains situations from the other side of the OSI Model spectrum, which is sometimes new to me.
Beyond the technical aspects, he breaks things down to the basics & makes them easy to follow. This is especially true of his book!
