They're designed to generate plausibly human-like text well enough to pass a generic Turing Test. That's why people believe they're "intelligent".

I am so stubborn about not using AI.
You have no idea.
I will even go as far as writing my own texts, drawing my own images, writing my own code, and reading the whole article or email just by myself. Crazy stuff.
@Em0nM4stodon me too, but I've got a disabled colleague who's having a hard time with the standard PC keyboard. AI actually deciphers his typing, so he can just type the begining of each word.
So far, I haven't seen any other valid use for the clankers.
The term #clankers is apparently in at least limited use on the fediverse. Why isn't it more common? It should be.
