@dalias There's data on the TV, but it's not all going anywhere. Standard practice for voice activation devices looking for wake words locally. I read LG's statement and their practices look completely normal -- it would be ridiculous for them to lie. All the "well, they COULD do this or they COULD do that" arguments I care not about, I care about what they are actually doing, because pretty much every single damned device we have these days COULD do all sorts of nasty things, theoretically.
Just signed this as we would love to have shutters on our house - also they would look amazing.
Petition: Remove the need for planning permission for external shutters on properties
If residential properties could install wooden external shutters covering windows and doors, without planning permission, it would remove the need for expensive aircon units, cooling houses in heat waves but also help warm houses in the winter.
@Sharksonaplane @julieofthespirits @inquiline
His name was Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski. Came from the Russian occupied part of Poland, his parents came from Polish nobility and were persecuted because of their nationalist activism. He only learned English when he was 20!
@rheinze @Sharksonaplane @julieofthespirits
i knew he was polish but had never at all interrogated how that had anything to do with the story of how he came to write that book. if it was taught to me, i forgot it entirely
Does anyone at #mrmcd26 have a Sony DS4 or DS5 on them they could lend me for an hour or two to test something for c3voc?

Reviewing a paper, and I'm pleased to see that they cite me. Less pleased to see it's a paper that I never wrote.

On the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the greatest threat to the safety and security of Americans is the President of the United States, together with his entire cabinet.

Niet alles wat technologisch kan, moet maar kunnen....
Job applicants are using AI to write resumes and prep interview answers.
Companies are using AI to screen those applications and conduct initial interviews.
We’ve officially automated both sides of a process meant to measure human connection.
The irony is genuinely unreal.
When these dudes were in university, Black people and women were driven out of computer science programs.
When these same dudes were software engineers, running hiring committees, Black engineers and women suddenly couldn't get hired, despite being all over the early industry.
When these same dudes became Venture Capitalists, Black people and women couldn't raise any money or get on any boards, even though Black women disproportionately start small businesses.
Now that these dudes are centi-billionaires, they're open and vocal about their explicitly ethnic cleansing policy positions, and get alt-right presidents elected, and end DEI, and roll back civil rights, and say that giving women the right to vote was a mistake, and talk about white birth rates.
And I have to read nonsense from journalists saying that the extreme money turned them fash?🤡
No.
You turned fash into extremely wealthy people. By being asleep at the wheel while the worst people on earth amassed untouchable levels of wealth.

Battery tech: Europe hopes to make up ground in the battery industry.
Europe has some promising battery tech, but can it make up ground lost to Chinese battery giants?

When you hear Big Tech CEOs pronounce the future of AI with authority, keep in mind that Jeff Bezos and Steve Jobs thought the Segway was going to revolutionize the world. Jobs said it would be as big as the PC. Now you can go look it up to find out what it was.
@algernon wait, while I looked away for a day or three you started building a declarative package manager (+maybe distro?) on netbsd?
Wow (positive)
@4censord algernon points at the last two sentences of the first paragraph of his bio on Fedi
Yes.
I started building a declarative package manager and distribution, initially on top of netbsd, but with the explicit goal of supporting multiple kernels, operating systems and whatnot.
While I like a lot about NetBSD, it is still far from my ideal operating system / kernel, it's not my final form, so to say.
So what I'm building, I'm building it with this in mind, that I will one day have to port it to something very much not NetBSD-shaped.
@Em0nM4stodon When do you believe any of this is "stored on their servers”?
@gruber From Apple's documentation:
"For Siri Recap, Apple Foundation Models running on Private Cloud Compute (PCC) summarize and format the final output."
"Siri Recap summaries and saved Live Rewind text snippets stored in the Siri app are end-to-end encrypted when synced through iCloud"
"If you use iCloud with two-factor authentication and have a device passcode, any Siri Recap summary or Live Rewind text snippet you choose to save syncs across your devices end-to-end encrypted in the Siri app."
Not enough people actively hate me to message me after a Michigan LOSS that everyone expected to be a loss so I have to assume this means we won. To which I can only say "what? How? That team, from last week, beat the #11 team in the country?"
