Just got back from an unplanned 1400 mile (2200 km) road trip in a Nissan Leaf. It was… mostly fine? We spent more time wrangling kids than waiting for it to charge, fwiw. August heat plus a passively cooled battery did mean we got throttled to just 20 kW for a few charges which was annoying, but again didn’t ultimately cause too much strife.

I wouldn’t recommend a Leaf for road tripping, but an EV with an actively cooled battery (and a bit more range) would be totally fine.

The most boring and generic car you could possibly own around where I live is a white Tesla. I've noticed lately just how many of them there are. I sometimes see several of them in a row.

I just went to the paint store, a 13 km round trip, and I counted 10 of them. Including 3 in the parking lot by the store which had 20-25 cars in it. 😁

Regarding battery electric vehicles: is there a difference between charging to 100 % for your trip or leaving it at 80 % and using fast charging on the way? In terms of battery aging.

PS: This is clearly a stunt. No car company, BYD included, would make boat-like behavior a product requirement for a conventional road car. This is likely a specially-prepared car traveling on a submerged roadway.

Make no mistake. This is a USA automaker and oil company hit job on the independence and sovereignty of the Canadian economy.

They are trying to reverse the inevitable so they can continue their own businesses as usual for as long as possible.

It can't be allowed to happen. Canada is already lagging far behind other nations. Our Economy and our Society and our burning forests, will suffer if our government gives in to this pressure.
