I hate to say it, but group messaging on Delta Chat needs a lot of work before it can claim to compete with e.g. Signal.

apart from the explosion depicted, last I knew there was still NO restricted moderation in group chats: everyone is an admin. that's just not gonna fly, sorry.

I want @delta to succeed. I use XMPP daily. #DeltaChat is the only other realistic option for low-resource federated E2EE chat (Matrix: not even once). but the disaster that is group chat on Delta needs to be handled.

@deutrino Ups, this definitely shouldn't happen. Could you provide a bit more details about what is this? Is everyone using somewhat recent versions of Delta Chat (2.62 is rolling, but 2.59 is fine as well, and probably older versions, but if it's much older it can be problematic). We'd be more than happy to help sort this out.

FWIW We don't have a single bug report about duplicated groups like you are showing. Rather many people saying, group messaging works nicely.

@deutrino ok, there is an issue that might be related: https://github.com/chatmail/core/issues/8801

Note that Delta Chat is geared and advertised for *private* groups, for "friends and family". If you use it for anonymous public groups and allow anyone to join, effects like the one you are showing can happen, given a troll. We will see what we can do to fix it, but "onboarding the internet" is not a primary goal, currently.
