That's pretty much it: I feel a deep sadness about what could have been (I'm sure there is a nice German word for that, but it escapes me atm)
I long for a world where the same amount of money and energy got spent on making the existing tools more accessible, to give people the same kind of empowerment without the 'well, everything' of our current moment.
And then I feel an anger rising, which I try to channel into useful things.
(And fail regularly)

@nirak yeah, I long for a world where the same amount of money and energy got spent on making the existing tools more accessible, to give people the same kind of empowerment without the well, everything :/
And I feel a deep sadness re this
I feel very conflicted about seeing (genuinely) cool projects that have been either completely or majority vibe-coded...
Those are projects I would have shared without a second thought, but the vibe-coded aspect makes me hesitant.
For a couple of reasons:
- maintainability in the mid to long term; what is cool now will end up (in many/most cases) as a rotting corpse down the line
- quality; I can't be sure the person who published it has a grasp on what's actually going on under the hood

@lavaeolus I believe it's a kind of grief. Grief is not only when someone dies, but in general the feeling that comes whenever we realize that something we thought was maybe going to happen (and that we want to happen) is not going to happen at all.
Unfortunately, knowing that it's grief does not make it go away. It takes time to process and causes all sorts of other emotions and thoughts. Part of it is disappointment, but it's more.
