Yes, no (built-in) AI is now a feature

@libreoffice LibreOffice is the best!
@libreoffice I understand that their are issues at Libreoffice, with result that many developers goto #Collabora Office.
So if you want to keep the development, then i understand that Callabora Office Classic is better solution then LibreOffice (because the Libre is gone) https://www.collaboraonline.com/collabora-office-classic/
@libreoffice I'm sure plugins are available if you want that.
@soulfire That's exactly what the blogpost says 😉
@libreoffice thanks. What a relief ❤️
@libreoffice ... all their bubble's gonna burst... 🎶
@libreoffice very good! Thank you for doing the sensible thing! #NoAI
@libreoffice Nice. Please keep it that way. Do not let AI seep into LibreOffice, even if on prem becomes possible.
@libreoffice is a very welcome resource.
@libreoffice The dystopia that the techbros and capitalists are creating will not result in a stable society, it will quickly degrade into a barbaric one.
@libreoffice what is the project’s stance on AI being used on the development side of things? How much code are you allowing to be written by LLMs?
@Jeff @libreoffice To be fair, the AI policy is the most stern I've seen short of outright banning the use of genai, but still, it's not banning genai. It also falls into the pit of "clearly mark it so we can fix it's nonsense" instead of "don't give us it's nonsense to fix".
@Jeff None of the core developers use them. We rely on contributions from the wider community and don't explicitly list tools people can and can't use – but we do require people disclose when they use LLMs and generally discourage the practice. We carefully review submissions by contributors to make sure the code quality is good and that the patch author understands their own code. LLMs are prohibited for students and other mentored work.
@libreoffice @Jeff The quality of the #LLM generated code is a small part of the problem. There are much important environmental and human rights issues associated to genAI / Big tech that we, the FreeSoftware community, can not ignore. We count on LibreOffice to keep making a difference in our society. Please, don't let us down.
@libreoffice @Jeff I would have said this was a good policy in the past, but I think it's worth considering the potential copyright issues presented with AI-generated output (but not with using AI to ask questions about the code base or to check your code for issues).
@libreoffice @Jeff Better than doing nothing, I guess.
@libreoffice what a cool looking robot. who drew that?
@libreoffice And a feature I like and prefer...
@libreoffice wow.
Thank you.
@libreoffice When the best ad is simply being the opposite of #microsoft
@libreoffice absolutely a feature!
@libreoffice it absolutely is. I wouldn't use libre office outside of a heavily firewalled off area if it had any. Let peoples thoughts stay on their own computer!!! You rock LibreOffice!
@libreoffice "Yes, we have no AI" was right there!
Well... some AI-enhanced contributions have managed to slip the cracks. Hopefully they manage to either review them or substitute them entirely soon, just in case
@libreoffice libreoffice should be more mainstream 😭
@pri Things are starting to happen 😉 LibreOffice has around 200 million users (we estimate – of course we don't track people). The Austrian Military has moved 16,000 PCs from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice. Similar things are happening in Germany and Denmark. And quietly in many organisations and companies around the world...
... and this seemingly quiet movement will only accelerate over the coming years.
Thank you for sticking to your principles. Much appreciated.
@libreoffice Thank you for that 🫶
@wobweger @libreoffice @grvsmth @moskitokoenig
It's still coded using AI, same as what Debian just decided to do.
