Since the Proton fanbois are out in force again after 1Password's latest problematic decision, a reminder that they have an even longer documented history of bad decisions.

Find something that isn't Proton, when looking for alternatives, and skip that Medium post the apologists like to link to.

The thing to remember about Proton repeatedly making terrible choices is that it has been entirely unforced; they could have just quietly accumulated users, focused on building a sustainable business, and so forth.

But no, Andy Yen had to have more, and here we are, with them sponsoring far-right YouTubers.

Please stop giving them new business, and reconsider your own usage.

There's plenty of evidence for them being a terrible choice, at this point. Stop recommending them as a viable alternative.

@sindarina I'm one of those who has shared that Medium article but I'm not a Proton fanboy.

I'm an anarchist and an antifascist. I'm opposed to capitalism. And, to be clear, I'm not pro-Proton, I'm pro privacy. We can see that big tech is largely captured by fascism. It's always been about capitalism for them so they'll do whatever they need to do to maintain profits. Day after day word comes out of another company doing or supporting fascism.

For activists and journalists that need encrypted email and other encrypted services, what should they be using? Keep in mind many such folks are not tech literate. They need a way to move off of the various services provided by #Google , #Apple, #Microsoft, etc.

When we look at the conduct of these various platforms which do we choose? I'm weighing the services offered against the conduct of the company (level of fascism we have evidence for) and comparing. Apple vs Google vs #Proton etc.
