Gustave Caillebotte, Paris Street; Rainy Day (1877)
For decades Gustave Caillebotte was only really known as a financial backer of the Impressionists, rather than a painter in his own right. This cityscape was part of a major revival of interest in the last couple of decades & is a compelling depiction C19th modernity in Paris; its urbanity, individualism & isolation, and exemplifying the idea of the flâneur, wandering city streets.
