#Google is going to close down #Android platform, making installing "unverified" apps almost impossible for a regular user. This would completely kill #FDroid, something I rely on to get apps that don't track me, don't show me ads and don't try to exploit me.
If you care about #FreeSoftware, you should care about this. Maybe with enough public uproar, Google like many other corporations before it will back off from this plan. But it certainly won't happen on it's own.
@unfa i thought they already backed off a little and told it would be off-switchable. you have to wait for 24hours
yes, it's still detestable but not so dire as it was at first
@wonderfox_floof Yeah, but imagine having every single user of your app going through the entire procedure. That's probably gonna cut down your user base by a factor of a 1000 if you're talking causal users. Most will be scared by the "are you sure you want to burn your house down?" warnings. Sure, people who are in the know will survive, but there's multiple issues:
1. Google can tighten this slipknot further at any time if we give them any foot hold.
2. Other corporations will follow suit.
So Google is going Apple. And they can do so, because we cannot do things without certain apps any more and they know.
