@brentsimmons Haven’t been to the website in ages. Very disappointed to see that up there…
@brentsimmons #Emacs 's evil is only evil in name BTW.
@brentsimmons Dude's a case of someone succumbing to narcissism. I saw he's been theorizing that one day Ubuntu may be based on Omarchy.
At least the guys over on /r/unixporn don't think they'll change the world with their dotfiles.
@brentsimmons if you don't want to look into vim since it has become slopware, there's a fork of the last known slopfree version of vim (9.1), evi
@brentsimmons I have fun time with helix (it's not perfect, of course), though it might along different (software engineering) lines than what got into neovim.
Anyways, sharing a thing that I enjoy so far :)
@brentsimmons
so the neo stands for neo-nazi... good to know ig
@brentsimmons Maybe that LLM they use to randomly generate code told them it was ok!
@brentsimmons also #neovim, like #vim, is #slopified with *" #AI " #SlopCode…
- Consider #EVi instead…
@brentsimmons That… seems pretty extreme, tbh…
@mackuba considering that dhh is a white supremacist calling for ethnic cleansing – seems rather un-extreme.
fwiw i've opened an issue asking to remove the endorsement on neovim website's bug tracker, and we should have clarity as to the neovim's position regarding dhh one way or another.
@mackuba What is? Not wanting to be involved with software that openly quotes and supports a genocidal white supremacist? Like that just seems like basic decency
@mackuba @brentsimmons or just having basic principles…
@Netzblockierer @brentsimmons But it's not *his* editor, it's someone's editor that happens to have his recommendation quote (probably an old one) as one of several on the landing page
@mackuba @Netzblockierer @brentsimmons Projects are not responsible for the people who like them; it's not a good project's fault if a bad person endorses them.
Projects ARE responsible for the recommendations they highlight. Neovim didn't have to quote DHH on their homepage: they chose to do that, and in doing so, aligned themselves with him. It has been nearly a year since DHH went full mask-off white supremacist (https://world.hey.com/dhh/as-i-remember-london-e7d38e64); Neovim have had plenty of time to remove the quote if they didn't want to be seen as accepting of his values.
@brentsimmons +1 for Helix. Or Helix mode in Zed, at least.
@brentsimmons if you're looking for "interesting" modal editors, Helix is a good one, with a different take on the medium from vi
@brentsimmons I'm not going to stop using Neovim over it, but it's not even a good quote. He might as well have said “I'm a world-renowned piece of shit!”
@brentsimmons <nods very approvingly>
