TIL in 1831 the Swedish Navy started planting 300,000 oak trees on the island of Visingsö to supply timber for future warships. When the trees were ready for harvest in 1975, ships were already made of steel so the Navy declined them. Visingsö is still partially covered by those oak forests today.
