6 People Abandoned in Life Raft After Greek #Pushback
On 22 August, 16 people—14 adults and two children—were rescued by the Turkish Coast Guard after being found drifting in an inflatable life raft off Marmaris.
According to the Turkish Coast Guard, the group had been pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.
Pictures and video from the rescue show the group packed into a black life raft without an engine or any means of navigation. They had been left entirely at the mercy of the sea.
Whether the group was intercepted at sea or had already reached land before being removed remains unknown. What is clear is that they had been under the control of Greek authorities before being illegally returned towards Turkey and abandoned in the life raft.
