If you think we have it bad in Aotearoa, with NZ Labour drifting around in the neoliberal centre-right, just look at Oz. Their Labour party is firmly in the neoconservative right under Albanese. Just listen to his defensive comments here about the plight of refugees his country's government traps on Nauru for years at a time;

Today in Labor History September 16, 1982: Phalangists and Israelis massacred as many as 3,500 Palestinian civilian refugees at the Sabra and Shatila camps in Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ordered the Phalangist to clear the camps of PLO fights and then watched and did nothing as they slaughtered civilians. In 1983, the Kahan Commission found that the Israeli military bore indirect responsibility by allowing it to happen under their command. The commission also blamed Ariel Sharon, then Defense Minister, forcing him to resign. This sordid past worked in his favor in the long run, however, as his “toughness” helped him to win the national election for Prime Minister.

It’s starting: Frontex is being deployed in Belgium
„The government had announced it, and now it’s happening: since last week, the first Frontex agents have been on duty at Zaventem airport.
The government’s goal is clear: the Minister of the Interior (Quintin, MR) and the Minister of Asylum and Migration (Van Bossuyt, N-VA) are delighted with this new collaboration. With the support of Frontex, they want to increase the number of deportations by plane.
Anyone staying illegally in Belgium must return to their country as quickly as possible. Thanks to Frontex’s intervention, we can speed up the pace of return operations.’
(Van Bossuyt)
The Frontex agency is the armed hand of the European Union: officially, in the words of the EU, Frontex ‘guarantees the safety and smooth functioning of external borders by ensuring security’.
In reality, Frontex is a deadly agency, already responsible for the deaths of thousands of people every year at the borders of Fortress Europe.“
We can only fear the worst with the new ‘collaboration’ between police officers and Frontex.
