So for once I tried the Nightjet sleeping car. However I got compartment number 1, located right next to the shower bathroom and most importantly the air conditioning compressor system. Which meant the door and the upper bed were resonating and vibrating all night... 😵💫 Imagine sleeping 50cm from a fridge. Ear plugs totally ineffective at these low frequencies.
I know this is an old model, but are train manufacturers not hiring sound engineers? Seems like table stakes for a night train!

@transpontus Yeah, it's not like there are many modern sleepers in Western Europe. 😬
@cycling_on_rails @transpontus Just as a very minor counterpoint, let me say that the one-person pods in the nightjet from Zurich to Berlin were really very good. More of those would be wonderful.

@cycling_on_rails @transpontus I am an idiot. It was Bologna to Munich. The Zurich train was a daytime connection on the way to Dusseldorf. Apologies. But the point remians, more of them would be great!
I guess that's why the "deluxe" compartments are located in the middle of the carriage?
Also the mattress felt worse than a couchette with PKP... Lastly space was rather cramped for a "sleeping car" branding (barely space for luggage and no seating space once the beds are unpacked). Overall this wasn't worth the extra money IMO.
