"The few life-threatening things which you can have a nonzero chance of successfully treating
without ever going to the hospital are: blood loss, lack of oxygen, freezing to death, blood
sugar crash, blood clot in the brain, heart, or lung, and tension pneumothorax. A few types of
poisoning/overdose as well, but most of those will be addressed in a separate section."
