Interesting article about #science funders experimenting with lotteries in #grantreview.
The main point seems intuitive - expert rankings are noisy and seldom agree, but the system often behaves as if they have perfect discriminative power. Why not simplify the reviewing process and replace hair-splitting with a (weighed) lottery?
