But this is the easy lesson. The next lesson is harder for existing western leaderships: that Europe and China need to work together against Trump's US - along with any other countries, including Canada and the UK, that want... not a return to the 'rules based order', because it was always something of a myth, but a genuine movement towards international justice.
Carney probably could show international leadership in some aspects of this - for example the move of international trade out of the dollar to a Keynesian alternative.
