A golden-coloured hoverfly with bright red compound eyes sits in a patch of sunlight on an otherwise dark leaf, the leaf has a shiny, waxy surface and is reflecting the early morning sunlight penetrating the dark woodland floor.

A submerged seed head from a bankside plant is caught in the gentle flow of a shallow stream, with the ripples of the stream distorting its shape and reflecting the blue sky visible through the woodland canopy.
