First ever QSO on my homebrew analog 20m SSB rig! Spoke with I0SNY near Perugia, Italy, 1133 miles from here on 4W! _Super_ pleased with this. It has taken 10 months of building and debugging and rebuilding and debugging to get to this point! Here is the rig spread out on my desk. 4W QRP PA on the left and 10 mW rig on the right.

OMG this is so awesome. i have never had the time to build an SSB rig from scratch.. I need to get on this soonish..
but i do have a QMX+ sitting on my desk that i need to attend to.

@relistan That is so impressive. Congratulation for your first QSO. As I have been told during my ham radio education, just because you have got the full license and you are now allowed to build your own radio, doesn't mean that you are able to do so. Looking forward to see more from your work! 73

@nikola thank you! The best thing was the Soldersmoke Challenge direct conversion receiver. You build a real radio for 40m from scratch, no kit. But there are lots of resources to help, videos, parts list, and a Discord. “Building a Transceiver” book by Eamon Skelton and “M0NTV Homebrewing” channel on YouTube are also great. The Bible for this is “Experimental Methods in RF Design” now back in print from the ARRL but it took a long time to get to the point where I understand it. Hope it helps!
@relistan It absolutely does! I've been looking for "Experimental Methods" to show up on eBay in Europe to no avail. 😊 I might have to bite the bullet & order from the US.

@nikola I had to wait and order EMRFD on a trip to the US. The older "Solid State Design for the Radio Amateur" is not as good, but is available free on the web.
