It looks intriguing, but I'm not sure about yet another platform(at least for myself)...

In the end, the question remains: Do I want multiple accounts in the wider fediverse to take advantage of the special features, or not.
I'm a bit worried about the clash of differing cultures on the various platforms (lemmy is not the same as say mastodon, even though both are federated).
But this is a general issue; I'm completely in favor of good people trying new & exciting things!

No, not yet another platform, I think, because connected to the Fediverse. Personally, as soon as I can get an instance of it running, either in my university or at @unif thanks to @pierre 😉 🙏 , I plan to migrate from Mastodon to it, of course staying connected to the Fediverse and not losing the already built network.

The language on the site made it seem like 'federation between OSN instances' - I added a correction :)
Do you know how "Transform any conversation into citable FAIR data with persistent identifiers." will work if it includes accounts from outside an OSN instance?

The flow is : when a publication is archived and gets a DOI, you can add co-authors to the metadata. If the instance has ORCID member API access, each co-author gets an ORCID notification to claim the work and link it to their ORCID record. They don’t need to already have an account on that Bonfire or Open Science instance, and depending on their ORCID settings, they may also get an email alert from ORCID. would love to get back to that work <3
@fresseng @lavaeolus Indeed, the idea of OSN is that if you're an academic who gets a lot out of these new features, your OSN account would (probably) replace your Mastodon account and you'd keep your existing connections in the process.

@lavaeolus This is something that @Bonfire has had in the works for a while. I think it's a good approach. Because the switching cost is currently still pretty high even for platforms within the fediverse, I'm personally more inclined to work on auxiliary support tools (i.e. feeds, bots, groups etc) than a replacement platform, but the latter unlocks a much larger feature space, so I get the appeal.
