TIL the Bosporus and the city of Oxford are both named something like "shallow crossing point in a river that allows cattle to cross the water". In Oxford's case the name is Anglo-Saxon in origin, while Bosporus comes from Ancient Greek boûs (cattle) + poros (passage).
