Bizarre statement by #AnasSarwar! 🙄
It's about his decision to eff to London, to a seat in the unelected #HouseOfLords. He will also be a minister for trade, but as a Minster Of State, he will have no power. The prize here is the Lords seat for life
At the end, he refers to his successor, in a context that can only refer to the party leadership. But he never actually says that he is resigning as leader of #ScottishLabour. Is he still leader?

Any party with aspirations to represent the people properly should take a principled stand and refuse to send its politicians to the HoL. I can only think of one (but stand to be corrected) - the SNP. Sinn Féin, perhaps?

Sinn Féin has boycotted the UK Parliament in toto for over 100 years. Its MPs don't sit in the #HouseOfCommons.
@2legged I knew about the HoC, and assumed that the same would hold for the HoL, but didn't want to assume! Thank you for the information. It's filed away (probably not altogether safely given my mind!)
Yes, @tompearce49. Sinn Féin's core belief is that Ireland should be governed by Irish people. So it won't join any part of the British Parliament. Just as British parties would refuse to take seats in the German Bundestag or the Russian State Duma.
Also, #SinnFein is a Republican party. It stands for representative democracy, not hereditary titles or a chamber of cronies.
Plenty of people disagree with other aspects of #SF politics. But those two principles should be universal.
