I'm quoted here, talking about the impact of foreign investors on Glasgow and Edinburgh and how they'll lead to profits being extracted from those cities rather than reinvested in its people.

Today's Common Weal Daily Briefing
Zohran Mamdani has shown that the rising tide of the Right can be turned back by a campaign of exciting progressive policies.
Many of his policies are ones that Common Weal has already campaigned for.
If you're interested in the reform of #CouncilTax -- which you should be -- there's a current consultation you can respond to, and should. It isn't, of course, nearly radical enough -- it's an exercise in turd-polishing, not in seriously trying to address the problem. But the more people who say so, the more likely we are to get real change.

"For nearly 20 years, the [ #SNP] has acted, in many respects, as a bulwark to the worst of Westminster – or so the story goes. Not good policy, just not as bad as Westminster. Just enough to hold power without disrupting the status quo.
When the SNP had the political capital to finally scrap the regressive Council Tax – something they had previously promised to do – they baulked. On LGBT rights, they faltered and kicked the can down the road"

@simon_brooke I always think about Pete Wishart, there's an example of entrenchment in Westminster.

@neonsnake whether and how you organise the flow of value between the commune layer and the co-operative layer I don't know. My hope is that you wouldn't have to, that the gift economy can encompass the co-operatives which operate across the commune, but I'm not confident of this.
"Scotland barely owns any of its own economy now. We are startlingly foreign owned. Our banks, our energy, our land, our supermarkets, our whisky industry – we work and we shop and we generate wealth and then the owners of these industries take the profit and ship it off overseas" -- Robin McAlpine

The Left offers this, the Right offers Spite and Grift.
It's a shame there are no left media outlets to talk about this instead of White Nationalism
Oh, and the Scottish Greens are on Mastodon, unlike everyone else. They actually live it, rather than talk it.
