Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, now returns "top results" for searches in Outlook online which are not sorted by date, thus making Outlook even worse. 🙄
I have the same TWO keywords in a 100 emails, and it's decided on some arbitrary ordering. (looking for the last emails with those two words in it)
(unfortunately, like most people, must use it for work)
I've given up trying to use Outlook search, because not only does it force unwanted sorting, but searches •everything• (Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint, & any other MS product your account is cursed with) & dumps it all into an agglomerated undifferentiated heap in the search results.
It's really fucking sad (& frankly enraging) when just scrolling your folder(s) is the •least• innefficient way to look for a particular item....

a couple of days ago i got kicked into a read-only version of MS Word because they're not supporting updates any more (?). i then went to check my work email Outlook to see if work had sent any info abt this (my software has a work license). Outlook search ofc did not work AT ALL but did turn up a mysterious new folder into which it'd been routing various emails for a couple of months (so i'd missed seeing them). work hadn't sent any notice i could find
so, Libre Office it is
I keep having fantasies that my employer will go open source. Not holding my breath.
At least they appear to be exercising some caution regarding implementing LLMs....

You could also investigate wine on Linux. I am still able to run excel, word, PowerPoint etc from office 2010 under wine, 16 years later. It’s seems documents/formats are largely still compatible with the current versions.
But Libre office has some great features too. I particularly like regex support in spreadsheets. Something you won’t find in the MS versions.
