Picked the first 2 teeny tiny zucchini today! (And I picked them teeny tiny because I can see that I'm going to be drowning in zucchini in about 2 days. Why did my partner plant 12 zucchini plants?!)

@sundogplanets My grandfather dug down 2 feet, 3 or 4 feet across. He backfilled entirely with steer manure, then planted the zucchini as he replaced the dirt mound on top.
The craziest thing is I guess he didn't even like them but felt obligated somehow to go nuts on them.
Later in the season, if you let two days pass without removing the fruit from the vines, you will be able to harvest the biggest fruit, hollow them out, attach wheels, and let the kids use them as "soapbox derby" cars.
Oh, sorry! I forgot you don't have hills.

@sundogplanets My wife once planted *6* loofah plants.
Eventually, the neighbors would see us coming with a bushel of loofahs and pretend they weren't at home.

my mom planted 4 when i was in high school for a family of four.
she wound up taking them to the bank where she worked and giving them away to customers. :)

@USelaine Yeah, we often end up donating a lot of our veggies to the local food bank (honestly I'm more ok with that than selling veggies for unrealistically low prices at a farmer's market)

Our local food bank is dialed in to the logistics of need here, and can also get food to other direct service providers who cook and feed people. 🙏🏼
@sundogplanets my brother often warned me not to leave my car windows down because people will leave zucchini in the car. 😉

I used to take buckets of feijoas from my mother's trees into my workplace. Co workers were delighted.
