My grandfather became NSDAP member in 1937. Not even my father knew.
@brembs yeah, my mom also didn't know about her father until I found him in the files
At least my grandmother was nowhere to be found. She told us as kids that the Nazis were elsewhere, but not where we lived...
@brembs I'm sure in my grandma's case it was because her husband probably said "politics is only for real men and women should be in the kitchen" 🫠
@gedankenstuecke My great-grandfather fought on the eastern front and was sent home because he was sick or hurt. After some time he returned to the front voluntarily, despite having family at home. Somehow my grandmother managed to believe for the rest of her live that her father was a good man and not a Nazi.
