In which I attend, 9 days apart, a World Cup match and a minor-league ballgame, enjoy both, and feel kind of guilty about that enjoyment: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2026/07/10/Summer-Sports
@timbray a lot less whining and.rolling around on the grass in minor baseball I bet.
@timbray Iβm not much of sports person but Iβve enjoyed watching key World Cup games at our local pub and we took some visiting family out see the Edmonton Riverhawks (West Coast League baseball) play. It was much as you described, lots of kids, socialization, and some great banter from the two Edmonton comedians and improv guys calling the game.
At the same, as you note, weβre often stuck receiving this entertainment from deeply questionable organizations. :/
@timbray I enjoyed reading this and share many of the same sentiments.
Haven't been to the World Cup, but I have been to some pricey Olympic events, Canada/Russia '72, Canada Cup '87 ... and also some extremely minor-league baseball. (Still around in Ontario, not officially connected to MLB - recently grandly renamed to the "Canadian Baseball League".)
And of course I love the CFL.
somehow the lower-level it is, the more I enjoy it β the fans are making roughly the same as the players.
