Pretty wild to see hacking content creators I once admired get completely AI-brained. For years you've made a name for yourself telling people the path to success was learning certain skills. And now, suddenly, the message is just "let the models do it?"
I know what the models can and can't do. But I also know that they require domain expertise to keep them on track, and there's only one way to develop it. Hint: it isn't writing prompts.

In what sense hacking? For the sec-op expert, the mechanical Turk sifting out through millions of bytes of a binary blob comparing each few instructions sequence to millions of exploitable patterns might speed-up the important discovery. And, as #noai fighter I had to admit it.
As for the generating slop in the other hacking meaning – making tangible electronics and program it – I more and more am convinced that creators either sold their channels, or at least sold their work on them.
If you for 10 or so years was making a few hundred bucks a month for 250-300h work it is much tempting to say yes to the mail offer in $$$ tens of thousands for "just use our model, bro".
First this happened to centrist political channels, then to tinfoil milliner's ones, now #technazi bros want to dumb future tinkerers.

But without guidance, they will make things up, especially in the realm of RE. In all realms, it is human expertise that one needs to evaluate the quality of output, and to correct mistakes. Therein lies the rub: there is no shortcut to expertise. And these creators who vainly claimed the title of "educator" now surrender that ground because the models serve them, the already-expert.

@mttaggart @TindrasGrove it's like every individual contributor suddenly discovered "paying someone else to do work for you" like it's some groundbreaking innovation. No you're just a manager now. Except worse
@mttaggart it's incredibly disappointing for the field of tech entirely revolving around "build your knowledge and understanding of everything as much as possible" pivot so hard to the point that "CTFs should allow LLMs and agents" is seemingly a given.
The whole appeal of CTFs was that they were tests of your skill and knowledge. How does running a generic program and waiting for *it* to figure things out do anything for you?
Quite a few youtubers I've followed over the years have become LLM zombies. I used to like watching them because of their interesting approaches to programming problems and reverse engineering, now it's just "I let Model-du-Jour hack at it for a few hours and for about $5000 I got a solution that doesn't compile but I see what it is going for."
It's interesting to see those who are absolutely addicted to it, to the point that it's kind of scary that they've sacrificed their entire thought process to this thing. When they start to anthropomorphize it that's when I unsubscribe to them; they're too far gone.
@Muddobbers @mttaggart It's legitimately so disappointed to get half way through a "how I reverse engineered this thing" video and hear the creator say "and at this point I got stuck so I told Claude to figure out the rest."
Like, what???
@bryce @Muddobbers I've used models to successfully reverse malware. I've also caught them just making stuff up, but the only reason I could was the hours I spent learning how to do this myself.
