Its the great filter of the Fermi Paradox writ large in our future. Whilst we can lay most of the blame at the feet of big gas and oil and a tiny minority of individuals, in general principles we, humanity, will be forced to endure the consequences of our global ignorance and laziness.
I was thinking today about all the marvellous advances currently being made in photovoltaics, heatpumps, batteries, electric cars, etc, etc... and about all the stupid time and effort and investment pumped into fossil fuel technologies over the last 100 years.
Many early cars were electric. If only we'd kept to the electrify everything route, and not turned into the fossil fuel dead end. If only we'd known what a disaster fossil fuels would turn out to be... Then I remembered that many senior people in the fossil fuel companies did know, do know, have known for a long time.
Make oil, coal and gas corporations pay their fair share for the damage they cause.
Introduce new taxes or fines on them to help communities at home and around the world rebuild from climate disasters and invest in climate solutions.

@greenpeace Companies are legal fictions. Aside from ending them, removing subsidies, stripping assets VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT to go after ALL execs, current and former, to hold them PERSONALLY LIABLE AND CULPABLE for their crimes against people and planet.
