You have probably heard of the Flamingo Revolution in Albania. What started as a protest against a Jared Kushner-backed resort in a protected area is now in its 40th day, with protesters demanding Prime Minister Edi Rama's resignation and early elections.
The country's pro-government oligarchs have publicly backed Edi Rama, but one in particular stands out: Gjergj Luca. He has received hundreds of hectares of public land for free and holds fishing rights along the entire Albanian coast.
A few days ago, he posted a video showing two children, aged 14 and 15, working on a construction site: https://youtube.com/shorts/49pKkSndzXc
The video sparked immediate public backlash. His Rozafa Fish City business has received more than 5,000 one-star reviews on Google Maps, and the number continues to grow.
Yesterday, Edi Rama's police chief announced that authorities are investigating and prosecuting people for leaving negative reviews.
Criminal investigations over online reviews have raised serious concerns about freedom of expression and the use of law enforcement to shield politically connected business interests from public criticism.
