I just burst into tears at the climax of Song 2 by Blur. That's never happened before 🤔
I used to play rock, grunge and metal covers with a house party band back in the late 1990s. Playing Song 2 as fast as we could, in a room full of writhing bodies, was some of the best fun I've had.
#Listening to the whole of Blur's 1997 self-titled album, I can hear where a big part of Gorillaz came from.
Despite liking The Great Escape immensely, I wasn't a huge fan of the 1997 album when it came out. I already had Pavement for noisy shoegazing, and a bunch of kiwi bands like The 3Ds and Squirm.
But like Manic Street Preachers' Holy Bible, and Oasis' Definitely Maybe, Blur Blur has aged well. I'm really enjoying this relisten.
30 years on, Song 2 is still such a fucking banger.

Legit. Just infectiously fun. Like Lust for Life by Iggy Pop (I think my band played that too).
