@mattblaze Your image of the strip is so lovely! We are just back from Las Vegas. Took some guests to watch the fireworks on July 4th. Probably the only city where I came back without making a single image 🤦🏾. My son was so nauseated with all the smell of tobacco and weed that we ended up sitting in a quiet corner of the Bellagio’s lobby while the whole city was out there in front of the fountain. I feel it is one of the most overrated cities in the US. Maybe my priorities are different…
@mattblaze were you in the Cosmo for this shot?
This is a composite of two captures with the Rodenstock 70mm HR-Digaron-W lens, each made with the back shifted up 15mm, and then with the individual captures shifted 18mm left and right, respectively. The result is two "side-by-side" 4x3 vertical images, with just enough overlap to allow them to be stitched together into a single 5x7 horizontal frame, yielding a total of about 270 megapixels.
The equivalent field of view on a "full frame" 35mm camera would be roughly that of a 26mm lens.
A technical challenge here was capturing the Bellagio fountain, which is split in half across the two shifted captures. Because the fountain changes continuously, it was hard to make two captures that could sensibly stitch together. After some trial and error, I ended up capturing them 15 minutes apart at about the same point during successive fountain "shows".
This is part of a set of two identically framed images of Vegas. This one, at night, shows the strip at its best, such as it is, with the lights and excess at least hinting at some sense of glamor and excitement. The other, made during the day, shows the strip at its most depressing, looking like a failed mega-mall and theme park that you might find off a forgotten exit near an interstate highway.
@mattblaze Ooh. Very interested to see the other!
@mivox @mattblaze It's in the linked flickr album, just hit the left button in the ui
@atrus @mattblaze Thanks! There is no such button on my phone, but I’ll try again on a different device. 😊
@mattblaze @atrus Thank you! Wow the contrast is really something.
