@neil I’m finding AI draining from both sides. Both those for and against are overstating their cases and undermining themselves. As for what I find exciting, I’ve been enjoying deploying tons of docker services and switching away from the big companies. It’s amazing what there is out there you can DIY when you go looking for it.

@neil I hear you... I ended up speaking about AI recently, and I said to someone that there is plenty of tech I am excited about and would love to talk about - but it doesn't have a $$$ marketing budget, so we're talking about AI.

@neil This is wonderful. I can’t remember the last time that I felt *only joy* when experimenting with new tech, and not some nagging suspicion that I’m playing right into the hands of some sociopathic investor.

I always need to remember that there is opportunity to develop tech that serve the everyday user using *not* cutting edge technology. The compute power in an average user’s PC or phone is so *vast* these days that there is ample opportunity to do something cool and humane with much less.

Talking to computers to prevent e-waste, I read Andrew's AI thread - https://retro.social/@ajroach42/116868484633325804 - I also had a conversation with a friend at the weekend around this.

I enjoy tech when it is a tool, you have a problem, define the problem think of possible solutions an find appropriate tech to solve it, great!

However a lot of what I come across is 'snake oil tech' the technology as the starting point and the attempt to ram the square tech through any round hole.

I have no time for this.
